Ian McCall was supposed to fight Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out because of injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to discuss his latest injury. Injury that compelled him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my own nostrils. I mean I am literally at the physicians now talking about it. It’s what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I must pull from a good deal of s**t. It sucks, but if you train as hard as I do and you have been doing this as long as I do, its part of the match ” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession has been only been plagued with injuries and it’s frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do however, this is my main source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, that I feed on my own and it stinks. However, on a different note, this is my passion; this is what I really like to do. I’m 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I’ve already been in struggles for 13 decades. To watch my body fail me time and time again it is hard. It’s one of those things it makes you question a good deal. I’m such a healthy individual, my loved ones is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a very strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, that can be bad. I am sure I will need to get a hip replacement eventually. I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into a car crash not too long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always a thing, but it is far better than having a real job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I have been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in different ways, it might be worse, I could be dead. I might have lost full use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I look at. I must maintain a positive mindset because I must be a fantastic role model for team-mates and my child. It is one of those things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I believe that now he has found a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and becoming better. I believe he will conquer Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I don’t know. I believe this is one guy he’ll have difficulty finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, as much as I want to beat his face , he is outstanding. He’s the precise man you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m likely to go together this one for sure.” Loss to John Lineker”Oh man that has been huge. I got too emotional; I showed the first round I could definitely beat him. People were just like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the guy still is not very good I must have overcome him. I think I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face is going to split open before you knock me out and that is exactly what happened. With me it is outside matters, they always distract me, woman problems or what have you. I just kind of fell apart after that round. I am smart enough to understand I was going to lose that struggle sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came about and said hello and I’m just kind of love, I am screwed. That was a mental thing, that has always been my biggest downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my mind Sherpa. He’s overall made me a much better person. As far as goes, he’s a large part of it” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I would not say overlooked, there is other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in this fight. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let us state this injury is just 6 months, they’ll talk about me after that, that is alright. You can find different people that deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how great I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs people to fight, the division needs people to move and shake and create a big jolt. I don’t mind it, it’s cool, whatever.” Raising a daughter as one dad”Yeah it’s not simple; realistically I do not know anything about women. I know how to get one in bed that is about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is going on?’ Do not cut your hair, don’t put soap in areas, like I don’t know. Realistically I have a lot help, I live together with my father. My dad got a divorce, he said move in, and I will help you out. My dad’s retired so he kind of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mother is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of assistance. So I’m not going to say I am doing so alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a baby and I received a village of people around me. Even if there are days where I must take her to the gym, there is always someone there. She’s pretty damn independent I will take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She is going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I used to work for a fashion design firm; the only real fighters I hang out with are either people I am forced to hang out with or my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and materials. They’re hideous, such as Jose Aldo said we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is really comfortable; clearly Reebok makes a fantastic product. I don’t know who left the design, no matter what generation we are in 80’s 90’s, that does not match anything, it is just ugly. But perhaps I’m wrong; maybe I’m looking for something a bit cooler looking. Its performance based equipment; that is all that matters. It is an evolution of the game. We wanted it to shine, sure we are not going to have paid that much money but it is what it is. In case you have a issue then stop, these are the amounts we must deal with. Now if you’re smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in manners like I have. I have outside sponsors; I have Layrite, that is like a hair and mustache product. I have got a great deal of clothes and lifestyle businesses. I receive a lot of exposure from materials like that. People will need to learn t to step outside the box, make money for themselves and also have a smart agent.” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been fine, but at the same time they run a business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that’s a premiere sports league. If you see the machine which is your UFC, from the inside it is outstanding. The people are excellent; the company layout is simply remarkable. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all operate, it’s beautiful if you enjoy company. The matter is that they didn’t have to consult us since it is their business. We are a commodity; as much as I wish to say trendy we ought to be earning money like baseball, football and basketball. Because we should we’re really putting our lives on the line. But we’re not and I don’t want to quote Urijah Faber, he stated’I never got into this for the money’ frankly I get it, I am a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I’m always going to be ok. I am going to find ways [to earn money]. I own a portion of a social media company, I own a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity thing. I have other stuff that’s likely to make me more money, therefore I’m going to be ok. I do believe for men that don’t have much else or guys that aren’t that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I have a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we constantly talk about it but it is a tiny bit of a drive from my home with all the visitors. I will be up there shortly, I must do some stuff in the region so I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his host DirectEndorcements.com.
