MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR WEDNESDAY: ALVEY INJURED, MALDONADO AMONG LATEST UFC CUTS, RIZIN DAY 2 WEIGH-IN RESULTS
Sam Alvey injured and from UFC Fight Night 82 bout against Daniel Sarafian Sam Alvey has Endured a broken jaw and has withdrawn from his scheduled Feb. 21 UFC Fight Night 82 with Daniel Sarafian at Pittsburgh.
Alvey (26-7) first broke the news to MMA Latest and this was afterwards verified by MMAFighting. Alvey had his three battle winning streak snapped in his final fight as he suffered a first round knockout loss to Derek Brunson in UFC Fight Night 73 in August. The UFC hasn’t named a replacement opponent for Sarafian at this stage. UFC Fight Night 82 takes place Feb. 21 at Consol Energy Center at Pittsburgh. Fabio Maldonado and seven other fighters released from the UFC MMAFighting.com reports the UFC has cut ties with eight fighters including enthusiast favourte Fabio Maldonado. In addition to Maldonado, the UFC has also released Chico Camus, Kevin Souza, Ericka Almeida, Bubba Bush, Mickael Lebout, Vernon Ramos and Jumabieke Tuerxun. Maldonado (22-9) has had an up and down career in the UFC. He won his promotional introduction over James McSweeney in 2010, then lost three straight fights. He then won three in a row before going 1-4 in his last five fights. Souza (15-4) being released was a bit of a head scratcher. The 31-year older was riding a 10-fight winning streak (including three-straight wins from the UFC) before losing to Chas Skelly back in November in UFC Fight Night 77. In addition to that, Souza told MMAFighting he was not told from the UFC in regards to the launch. Camus (14-7) had not won a fight since beating Brad Pickett in 2014. Lebout (14-5-1, 1 NC) is coming off back to back losses to Sergio Moraes and Steven Ray. Meanwhile Ramos (3-1), Bush (8-3, 1 NC), Almeida (7-2) and Tuerxun (15-3) racked up a combined 0-7 album with one NC at the UFC before being published.
