Phil Taylor has known for sensation Leighton Bennett to be included in Wolverhampton in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts.
Bennett slipped into the spotlight with becoming the youngest world champion in January, beating Scotland’s Nathan Girvan 3-0 in the Lakeside to win at the BDO World Youth Championship.
The schoolboy nicknamed’Boom Boom’ also has scooped six of the 10 events on the Junior Darts Corporation circuit and has enjoyed success on the mature BDO Tour at 2019.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn has advocated Bennett to be included by the BDO as one of their eight agents for the cross-code event of November and speculation is mounting that the 13-year-old has been considered for choice.
The celebrity has climbed to 17th over the likes of Martin Adams and Scott Waites over the seasonal BDO standings, and Taylor believes Bennett’s potential addition would create substantial interest.
“I’m not a huge dart-watcher,” Taylor told Sky Sports.
“Somebody just asked me a question regarding youthful Leighton Bennett and should he have a wildcard into Wolverhampton?
“My answer was that I do not see the darts on TV but when Leighton Bennett understands a wildcard I will watch it since he is exciting. He is a nightmare to perform.”
Taylor retired from action after the 2018 World Championship, but Bennett has been faced by the world winner on the exhibition circuit in recent months and he’s experienced mixed fortunes.
‘The’ Power’ conquered the youngster 10-7 in March in London’s Tower, although Bennett acquired his revenge, beating back the 59-year-old 4-1 at the SAP Darts Slam in Frankfurt .
“I’ve played him a couple of times and he is a complete nightmare, since he is a young lad and he is great,” Taylor added.
“He’s got no fear at him at all. I quite like that in him.”
