Although the lead-up to the NHL season does not reach quite the fever pitch that is attained during NFL preseason, puck fall is nearly here, and I couldn’t be more excited.
BetOnline has spoiled hockey bettors this year by releasing a comprehensive list of participant stage props. Below I’ve broken down some of my preferred OVER/UNDERs on the board but be sure to have a look at the NHL tab to the home page to find breakdowns of all the season futures, team previews and other fascinating stuff.
The Anaheim Ducks didn’t begin quacking until the second month of this season this past year and that was awful for its creation of players like Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. Both finished with 62 and 63 points respectively in what was Perry’s worst points per game season since 2006-07 and Getzlaf’s worst since 2011-12. At the three seasons before last, Perry and Getz both averaged to a point a game. If these two remain healthy — they always have — their set point totals will both be eclipsed. What Connor McDavid was able to do in his inaugural period last season was absolutely extraordinary. He also scored 48 points and has already been anointed captain of the group. BetOnline has pegged him using an O/U stage total of 86.5 and I don’t think that it’s ridiculous to project this kid as a 100-point scorer. Connor does something electric whenever he touches the puck and really had the second-highest points per 60 minutes among players that played over 12 games. The dude is effective and may very easily lead the league in scoring in only his second year as a pro.Connor’s linemate, Jordan Eberle, is the most likely beneficiary of this McDavid series and is based on have a career season. The right-winger’s O/U at this time is 59.5 and, frankly, it may be the easiest money on the plank. Ebs had 76 points his second year at the league and he did that playing alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. RNH is good, but he’s definitely not Connor. Another checkmark on the OVER side of this prop is the hole left from the Taylor Hall trade. Hall had 65 points playing on the Oilers’ top line and his place has been filled by the lumbering Milan Lucic. Eberle is set up very well to break the 40-goal markers for the first time in his young NHL career.
