The pound-for-pound king is once again in action on August 31 at the O2 Arena in London, England since Vasyl”Loma” Lomachenko defends his WBA (Super), WBO and The Ring lightweight titles??while also opting to the vacant WBC strap from England native Luke”Cool Hand” Campbell. As expected, Lomachenko, the current champ, is now a huge -1800 favorite Campbell, with the Brit, coming straight back at +850.
Lomachenko (-1800) appears to extend his 12-fight winning streak and take a step closer to unifying the four major lightweight titles. The Ukraine native possesses two of the significant championships –??the WBC would provide him a second, and also a date using IBF champ??Richard Commey??would arrive.
Loma is a technician in the ring, with creativity footwork and accuracy. He does a tremendous job dance out of the way of his competitor strikes, requiring angles supporting his foe??that allow??him to have an open shot in their chin. Over his present winning streak, two successes are by retirement or knockout.
Campbell (+850) lost the WBA and The Ring lightweight straps via split decision to Jorge Linares in 2017 — Linares ended up dropping those titles to Lomachenko in May 2018. Ever since that defeat, Cool Hand has rattled by knockout, which has put him back.
The England native uses his own jab nicely, always pawing out it and working behind it, and is extended and very tall using a hit, for its lightweight division. Campbell fires his strong left hand regularly behind it and does a good job. He does not bring back the glove to his chin instantly, which got him into trouble with Jorge Linares and does have a propensity to leave his punches out a little long.
The Ukraine native is so incredible at dissecting his opponent and moving to the offensive, although I anticipate Campbell to discover some success by using his reach and his good footwork to keep Loma off early. Look for Campbell to squeeze on his back foot and catch him crossing over and he will allow his heavy hands fly. The England native has never been finished but he’s been dropped before.
Prediction: Vasyl Lomachenko (-1800) via conclusion
Odds as of August 31
