Andrew Strauss and former England captains Geoffrey Boycott have been awarded knighthoods at the resignation honours list of Minister Theresa May.
Boycott, 78, has been captain on four occasions in 1978 instead of the injured Mike Brearley and scored 8,114 runs in 108 Tests for England from 1964 to 1982.
England was directed by strauss to two Ashes wins, in addition to the number one Test ranking, in his 50 Tests as captain.
The 42-year-old scored 7,037 runs in an average of 40.91 at 100 England Tests.
Using the bat, Boycott averaged 56,83 over the course of his profession with and scored over 48,000 runs and centuries.
After his retirement, Boycott is part of the BBC’s cricket commentary team and has gone on to become a broadcaster that was successful.
The Yorkshireman was forced to apologise in 2017 after saying it would be more likely he’d be knighted if he had been to’his face’.
Strauss joined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) because England’s manager of cricket following his retirement from all forms of cricket at 2012.
He proceeded to establish a foundation in her name , and left the function to confirm his wife Ruth who was being treated for terminal cancer.
Former England coach Andy Flower, who had been in control during Strauss’ period as captain, paid tribute.
“I cannot think of a man more worthy of this honour,” Flower said.
“As a player he was resilient and tough, as a priest that he balanced a company hand and moral compass with a compassion and compassion that supposed he had been loved and respected in the dressing room by his players and the staff”
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison stated:”Our heartfelt congratulations go to Sir Geoffrey Boycott – honoured because of his extended career and passionate dedication to the game.
“In May 2015, Andrew was invited to join with the ECB as director, England cricket, to shape the future strategy of the men’s global teams – as a way to enable an environment which could see England as live contenders for the World Cup in 2019, an aim they thrillingly delivered just a couple of short months ago.
“It was with the identical class and courage he along with his family setup the Ruth Strauss Foundation to raise money and consciousness just a few months after dropping Ruth to a rare form of cancer.
“Aside from his accomplishments on and off the pitch,” Andrew is widely considered to be an exceptional person in our match and this superb accolade will be celebrated around the cricketing world.”
