We went 3-0 on these — the moneyline in equally and the total at one of the two and previewed just two of Pittsburgh matches. Let’s just cut to the chase and say that we are going to choose against the Pirates again on Thursday as they start a four-game show from the thin air of Denver from the Colorado Rockies.
From April 16-18, the Rockies and Pittsburgh visited and won two of three. Both groups were back then. Both are last in their branches and quite likely to finish there.
Third baseman Nolan Arenado along with perennial Rockies NL MVP candidate needed. Daniel Murphy and ian Desmond were each 4-for-10, together with Murphy knocking and homering in five.
Pittsburgh was led from the show by Josh Bell, that was 5-for-12 with 2 homers, four runs and three RBIs scored. Stellar rookie Bryan Reynolds was 2-for-6 having a homer and four RBIs.
Reynolds is fighting to become the first rookie ever to win the NL batting title (it has happened twice in the American League). Paul Waner using 35 holds the club rookie record for doubles in a year at 1926 and this should be broken by Reynolds.
Colorado is below .500 general but has a winning record at Coors Field. However, last year, the Rockies are just 12-17 in the house this past decade from the Pirates and lost two of three. The Rox have not swept a home show vs. Pittsburgh because 2013 and were swept in 2015.
The Rockies are rather lean now with outfielder David Dahl and starting Kyle Freeland, Jon Gray, along with pitchers German Marquez around the injured list. Gray is completed for the entire year and Marquez likely is.
